Walter Cronkite receives honor: Walter Cronkite, who is stepping down from his CBS anchorman duties, displays the first LaGuardia Medal on Friday, March 6, as he was honored by the City of New York for his years in journalism. In presenting the medal, Mayor Edward I. Koch noted that Cronkite began his career in journalism with the Houston Press while Fiorello LaGuardia was New York's mayor in the 1930s.
