It is on the island of Skorpios that Aristotle ONASSIS will rest alongside his son Alexander, who died in January 1973. The funeral ceremony lasted barely 15 minutes, heavy with symbolism. Two clans surrounded Aristotle ONASSIS’s coffin. Around Jackie and her two children, John-John and Caroline, was Senator Edward KENNEDY, who, as in Dallas, took the place of the family’s male figure. Opposite them were the others, that is to say, the legitimate family of Aristotle ONASSIS.
The body of the shipowner, departing from Paris under the snow, had arrived under the blazing sun of a neighboring island. His daughter, Lina, and Artemis, his eldest sister, led the mourning. It was the same priest who had married Jackie and Aristotle ONASSIS in 1968 who, today, said the final prayers.
